Overview

The Battle of Sekigahara is a historical flashback sequence in Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara. It shows part of Atsu’s earlier life as a mercenary on mainland Japan and explains how she met Nagato, a major figure in the expansion’s present-day storyline. The expansion moves between two time periods: Atsu’s memories of the 1600 battle and her later return to Ezo, where Nagato has become the target of the Vipers.

The battle depicted in the game is based on the real Battle of Sekigahara, fought on 21 October 1600 in what is now Gifu Prefecture. Historically, the conflict pitted Tokugawa Ieyasu’s Eastern Army against a coalition associated with Ishida Mitsunari and the Toyotomi cause. The historical battle is commonly treated as the decisive turning point that enabled the Tokugawa shogunate.
