Overview

Ezo is the broad setting of Ghost of Yōtei, the northern land corresponding broadly to modern Hokkaidō. The base game takes place in 1603, around Mount Yōtei, more than three centuries after the events of Ghost of Tsushima. The game does not confine itself to the mountain’s immediate slopes. Ezo is a large open-world area divided into six principal regions, with Mount Yōtei itself treated as a smaller associated side area rather than a seventh full region.

The player character, Atsu, travels through Ezo while pursuing the Yōtei Six. Exploration, settlement visits, regional activities and information-gathering all support that central journey, but the world is not simply a single linear route from one boss arena to the next. Several areas are available early, while others open through the main story.
