About this guide

Base game scope. This guide covers the Ariake Lighthouse location in Ghost of Tsushima, including the immediately associated lighthouse grounds and nearby access points. It does not treat the whole Ariake prefecture, Hiyoshi Springs, Golden Forest, or every landmark in the surrounding countryside as part of the lighthouse itself.

Overview

Ariake Lighthouse is a coastal landmark in north-eastern Ariake, Izuhara. It stands on a cliff south of Hiyoshi Springs and is visible from much of the surrounding coast. In the base game, the lighthouse is both an exploration point and a recurring story location: Jin visits it during The Traitor, the fourth tale in Masako Adachi’s quest line, and can later return to light its beacon as an open-world activity.

The location is modest in size, but it is useful early in the game because it combines a visible coastal landmark, a lighthouse discovery, a minor Legend increase and a hidden Vanity Gear item that requires the Grappling Hook. It is also a good navigation point when travelling between the Hiyoshi Springs area, eastern Ariake and the roads leading into the southern part of Izuhara.

Location and boundaries

Ariake Lighthouse is in the Ariake prefecture of Izuhara, not in Hiyoshi Springs itself. Its position is on the coast south of Hiyoshi Springs, in the north-eastern part of Ariake. Several guides use Golden Forest or the area south of Hidden Springs Forest as a map reference, but those are broader surrounding areas rather than separate structures belonging to the lighthouse.

For practical purposes, the lighthouse location consists of:

It should not be merged with the following neighbouring places:

The lighthouse is a named point of interest, not a settlement, shop, inn or full Mongol Territory in its free-roam presentation. The story mission may place combatants and mission objectives around it, but that temporary mission state should not be treated as the permanent identity of the location.

The last four names are regional or neighbouring references. They are included to clarify navigation and boundaries, not because they are subareas of the lighthouse.

Geography and visual setting

The lighthouse occupies a high coastal position above the sea. The cliff gives it strong visibility from the shoreline and makes it a useful landmark when riding through Ariake. The tower itself is approached from the landward side, with ladders leading upwards to the beacon. The surrounding scenery is typical of eastern Izuhara: open coastal views, wooded slopes and long sightlines across the water.

The elevated position has two practical consequences

  1. 01
The tower is easy to identify from a distance. If you are travelling along the eastern coast and can see the lighthouse above the cliffs, you are close to the correct objective.
  2. 02
The roof collectible is not part of the normal climb. Reaching the beacon and reaching the roof are separate tasks. The roof requires the Grappling Hook and a carefully positioned jump from the upper structure.

Access and routes

From Hiyoshi Springs

The most straightforward approach is to leave Hiyoshi Springs and travel south along the eastern side of Ariake. The lighthouse lies on the coast, so the shoreline and the visible tower provide useful orientation. If the location has already been discovered, fast travel is the quickest option.

From the Ariake interior

From inland Ariake, follow roads and open ground towards the eastern coast. The tower is easier to spot once you leave dense woodland. A guiding wind can help if the location has been selected as a target, while the map marker becomes more useful after the lighthouse has been discovered.

During The Traitor

The first story-associated visit occurs during The Traitor, the fourth Masako Tale. In that mission, the lighthouse serves as part of the tale’s route and combat area. This story visit is distinct from the later free-roam activity of returning to ignite the beacon.

Residents, factions and enemies

Ariake Lighthouse has no permanent named resident, merchant or service provider documented in the available location guides. It is not presented as a village or survivor settlement.

During The Traitor, the lighthouse is associated with the mission’s hostile forces and objectives. Enemy placement during a tale is therefore a mission state, not a reliable description of the lighthouse in every later visit. After the relevant story sequence, the location should be treated as an exploration landmark rather than as a permanent enemy camp unless the game places enemies there during a particular encounter.

Named-character directory

Masako is connected to the lighthouse through the tale, but she is not a permanent resident of the location.

Faction directory

No permanent guard force, law-enforcement group or named garrison has been verified for the lighthouse itself.

Activities and rewards

Light the lighthouse

The main open-world activity is to climb to the top of the tower and ignite the large brazier. Guides describe Ariake Lighthouse as one of the Izuhara lighthouses that awards a minor Legend increase when lit.

The lighthouse activity is not a separate tale with a choice-based outcome. Its progress is tracked as an exploration activity.

Reward directory

The lighthouse itself does not function as a shop, armour-dye location, swordsmith, trapper, merchant or regular rest facility.

Light the lighthouse: The standard procedure is

  1. 01
    Enter the lighthouse grounds.
  2. 02
    Climb the exterior ladders.
  3. 03
    Reach the upper platform.
  4. 04
Use the torch or brazier interaction to light the beacon.
  5. 05
Leave by the available route or continue to the roof collectible.

Natural Vengeance Headband

The roof contains the Vanity Gear item Natural Vengeance Headband. It is easy to miss because climbing to the brazier does not automatically place Jin on the roof.

The Grappling Hook is required. Prima Games describes the route as climbing to the top, moving onto the roof, approaching a corner and jumping until the Grappling Hook prompt appears. Jin can then grapple to the higher roof area and collect the items there.

Acquisition steps

The headband is not required for the beacon activity. If you visit the lighthouse before obtaining the Grappling Hook, you can light the beacon first and return later for the headband. The item is not reported as permanently missable.

Acquisition steps

  1. 01
Obtain the Grappling Hook through story progression.
  2. 02
Travel to Ariake Lighthouse, either normally or by fast travel.
  3. 03
    Climb the lighthouse ladders.
  4. 04
Move onto the roof from the upper section.
  5. 05
Stand near a suitable corner and make the short jump needed to reveal the grapple prompt.
  6. 06
    Press the grapple command.
  7. 07
Search the upper roof area for the group of interactable items.
  8. 08
    Collect the Natural Vengeance Headband.
  9. 09
Grapple back down using the prompt at the roof edge.

Walkthrough

If you reach Ariake Lighthouse before starting The Traitor, you can explore the exterior and, once the game allows the interaction, light the beacon independently of the tale. If you are following Masako’s story, the mission route will bring you here naturally.

Recommended first visit: For efficient completion

  1. 01
Approach from the inland side rather than trying to climb the cliff directly.
  2. 02
Deal with any mission enemies before attempting the ladder climb.
  3. 03
    Light the beacon.
  4. 04
Check whether you already possess the Grappling Hook.
  5. 05
If you do, collect the Natural Vengeance Headband immediately.
  6. 06
If you do not, mark the location mentally or return later by fast travel.
  7. 07
Use the lighthouse’s height to orient yourself towards Hiyoshi Springs and the eastern Ariake roads.

Progression and missability

Ariake Lighthouse is available during Act 1, and its story association is with The Traitor. Unlike story-only lighthouse moments such as Tsutsu Lighthouse and Akashima Lighthouse, Ariake Lighthouse is also an open-world discovery that can be revisited.

The general lighthouse guides consulted state that lighthouse collectibles are not missable and can be completed after the story. That applies to the base-game lighthouse activity, though story dialogue and enemy arrangements naturally change after the relevant tale has been completed.

Nearby connections

Ariake Lighthouse is best understood as part of a wider eastern-Ariake travel route rather than as an isolated building. Its closest important connection is Hiyoshi Springs, which lies to the north. The lighthouse also connects visually and geographically with the coastal roads and forests of Ariake.

Nearby-place directory

These places should remain separate in a location hierarchy. The lighthouse is within Ariake, but it is not synonymous with Ariake as a whole.

Hazards and practical advice

The main danger is not a unique environmental mechanic but the combination of cliffs, narrow upper platforms and the grapple jump required for the headband.

Trivia and series context

Ariake Lighthouse is one of the eight base-game lighthouses spread across Izuhara, Toyotama and Kamiagata. The Director’s Cut adds two further lighthouse locations on Iki Island, but those are outside this guide’s base-game scope. Lighting all eight mainland lighthouses contributes to the Light the Way trophy.

The game’s lighthouses also have a consistent design role. They are highly visible coastal landmarks that give the player a clear physical objective: climb, ignite the beacon and claim the associated exploration progress. Ariake’s additional roof collectible makes it slightly more involved than a simple beacon visit.
