About this guide
Scope: Base game, including the original release and Director’s Cut versions of Ghost of Tsushima. Iki Island, Legends and New Game+ are not treated as separate locations here unless they directly affect the farmstead’s status or presentation. Spoilers: This guide discusses the liberation of Koshimizu Farmstead, The Blood Sutra, The Thief and The Unbreakable Gosaku.
Overview
Koshimizu Farmstead is a Mongol-occupied settlement in the Kushi prefecture of Toyotama, positioned south of Benkei’s Falls and north of Kawamata Village. It is one of the larger occupied farmsteads in the region and is important for three different reasons: it is a liberation target, a location used by several character tales, and one of the six farmsteads whose keys are needed to obtain Gosaku’s armour.
The location is not merely a single combat arena. Its roads, houses, fields, watercourses and nearby waterfall form part of a wider travel corridor through Kushi. The farmstead’s exact playable footprint changes according to what the player is doing. The Mongol Territory includes the occupied settlement and its immediate approaches, while The Blood Sutra leads from the farmstead towards a nearby waterfall and cave. That cave is connected to the mission, but should not be treated as an ordinary permanent subarea of the farmstead itself.
Location and boundaries
Koshimizu Farmstead lies in the central part of Kushi prefecture. It is generally described as being south of Benkei’s Falls, with Kawamata Village farther to the south. Kushi Temple is another important reference point, particularly because Norio can be found there when The Blood Sutra is available. Some guides describe the farmstead as northeast of Kushi Temple, while others place it by the road between Benkei’s Falls and Kawamata Village. These descriptions refer to the same settlement and its approaches rather than separate locations.
The most useful practical boundary is the area marked as Koshimizu Farmstead on the map while it is occupied. This includes the agricultural settlement, its houses and surrounding paths where Mongol guards and hostages are placed. The mission route in The Blood Sutra extends beyond that occupied area, first following tracks away from the farmstead and then reaching a waterfall and cave. Those later locations belong to the tale’s route, not necessarily to the farmstead’s ordinary territorial label.
Named places within or directly connected to the area
Appearance and geography
Koshimizu is a working agricultural settlement rather than a fortress built solely for military use. Its buildings and cultivated spaces are arranged around paths that allow Mongol patrols to move between hostage positions. The farmstead is large enough that approaching from one side does not immediately reveal every enemy group or hostage.
The surrounding landscape is shaped by water. The farmstead is close to a lake or substantial body of water, and The Blood Sutra uses the area’s streams, cliffs and waterfall as a route into the surrounding countryside. A guide for the tale describes Jin and Norio riding from Kushi Temple to a farm beside a lake before investigating a burned house.
The wider area also contains grassland and road approaches. The road northwards connects naturally with the Kushi countryside and the route towards Benkei’s Falls, while the southern approach points towards Kawamata Village. Kushi Grasslands is used separately during The Thief, so it should not be merged into Koshimizu Farmstead even though the two areas are close and the mission begins at the farmstead.
Subareas and mission-only extensions
The following distinctions are useful when navigating or documenting the location:
Subareas and mission-only extensions
| Area | Relationship to Koshimizu Farmstead | Normal access |
|---|---|---|
| Occupied farmstead | The main settlement and Mongol Territory | Open-world access once the region is available |
| Farmstead houses and fields | Internal parts of the settlement | Accessible during normal exploration, subject to enemy occupation |
| Road towards Kushi Temple | Nearby travel route | Open-world route and mission approach |
| Kushi Grasslands | Separate neighbouring area | Used during The Thief |
| Waterfall and cave | Mission route connected to The Blood Sutra | Accessed as part of the tale’s investigation |
Access and suggested routes
From Kushi Temple
This is the clearest route for The Blood Sutra. Speak with Norio at Kushi Temple, leave the temple and follow the road towards the farmstead. The journey is straightforward on horseback, with the farmstead reached beside the water.
From Kawamata Village
Approach northwards from Kawamata Village. This route is useful if the farmstead is being cleared as part of a wider Kushi exploration loop. Some guides place Koshimizu north of Kawamata Village and recommend using that settlement as the southern landmark.
From Benkei’s Falls
Approaching from the north brings Jin down towards the farmstead through the Kushi countryside. Benkei’s Falls is the most useful northern landmark, although the farmstead should not be confused with the falls themselves. Koshimizu is the occupied settlement south of the falls.
Recommended exploration loop: For a practical visit, use this order
- 01Travel to Kushi Temple and check whether Norio is available.
- 02If The Blood Sutra is active, begin it before clearing the farmstead so that the mission’s opening dialogue and investigation route are preserved.
- 03If the farmstead is still occupied and The Unbreakable Gosaku is active, clear it and rescue the hostages.
- 04Search the settlement after liberation for mission characters or dialogue connected with The Thief.
- 05Continue north towards Benkei’s Falls or south towards Kawamata Village.
Mongol occupation and liberation
Koshimizu Farmstead begins as a Mongol Territory. Its primary liberation task is a hostage rescue operation. Available walkthrough material identifies three hostages at the farmstead, with the player required to rescue them while dealing with the Mongol groups stationed around their locations.
One documented arrangement places a hostage inside a house near the northern side of the farmstead, with Mongols posted outside and additional enemies inside. The precise enemy distribution can be awkward if Jin rushes directly to the hostage, so it is safer to scout the perimeter first and remove nearby patrols before opening a rescue encounter.
A video guide lists the farmstead’s objectives as:
The bonus objective is not the defining condition for liberation and should be treated separately from the required hostage rescues.
Practical liberation advice
- 01Scout from the perimeter. Koshimizu’s size makes a direct charge risky, particularly on higher difficulties.
Practical liberation advice
- 01Identify hostage positions before starting a fight. A hostage can be endangered if Jin attracts enemies into the wrong part of the settlement.
Practical liberation advice
- 01Use rooftops and grass for separation. The farmstead’s houses provide useful lines of approach for archery, assassination and retreat.
Practical liberation advice
- 01Do not assume the last visible enemy is the final one. Hostage areas can remain locked while nearby guards are still active.
Practical liberation advice
- 01Complete optional objectives before the final rescue if possible. This avoids ending the territory event before the bonus condition has been fulfilled.
Practical liberation advice
- 01Collect the liberation reward after the settlement is cleared. When this location is being counted for The Unbreakable Gosaku, the important reward is its key.
The Unbreakable Gosaku
Koshimizu Farmstead is one of six settlements that must be liberated for The Unbreakable Gosaku, a Mythic Tale. The six required locations are:
The tale requires Jin to obtain a key from each settlement, then travel to the Old Togo Rice Fields, deal with the Mongol ambush there and use the keys to open the stone door leading to Gosaku’s armour.
Koshimizu’s key is awarded for liberating the farmstead, not for discovering a separate hidden chest or completing a standalone puzzle. If the location is still marked as occupied, check that all three hostages have been rescued and that no enemy remains active in the territory.

Missions and activities
The Blood Sutra
The Blood Sutra is one of Norio’s Tales of Tsushima. It begins at Kushi Temple, where Jin speaks with Norio before travelling to Koshimizu Farmstead. The farmstead is being affected by a fire, and Jin investigates a burned house while looking for the abbot.
The house investigation requires Jin to inspect several points, including the charred bodies, barrels, bedding and a window. The window is also the route to the tracks outside. The waterfall sequence then takes the player beyond the farmstead’s ordinary settlement boundary.
Important progression note
The timing of the farmstead’s liberation can affect dialogue and the way nearby story content is presented. Player reports and guide material indicate that liberating Koshimizu during or before Norio’s related content can alter dialogue involving the hostages and villagers. These reports are useful evidence of progression variation, but the exact conditions are not consistently documented in authoritative sources. Treat the dialogue changes as possible state-dependent variations rather than a fully mapped branching system.
The Thief
The Thief is one of Lady Masako’s Tales of Tsushima and begins near Koshimizu Farmstead. Junshin is the initial contact, after which Lady Masako leads Jin towards the Kushi Grasslands. The mission then follows a woman travelling with ronin.
The mission’s stealth section has a particularly important failure condition: Jin must avoid alarming the woman. One guide warns against using a three-person chain assassination because it can alert her and immediately fail the objective. The safer approach is to isolate and assassinate the ronin individually, keeping the woman unaware until the mission directs otherwise.
Mission rewards
Available walkthrough information lists the following rewards for The Thief:
The Charm of Bludgeoning increases stagger damage by a moderate amount.
The Unbreakable Gosaku
This Mythic Tale is associated with the farmstead through its liberation requirement rather than through a full tale taking place there. Koshimizu is one of the six key locations. The tale’s starting musician is associated with Akashima Village, and the final armour location is in the Old Togo Rice Fields, so neither should be counted as part of Koshimizu Farmstead.
The Blood Sutra: The investigation sequence includes
- 01Travelling with Norio to Koshimizu Farmstead.
- 02Investigating the fire near a house.
- 03Searching the burned interior for clues.
- 04Following tracks away from the farmstead.
- 05Fighting Mongols near a waterfall.
- 06Investigating blood at the waterfall.
- 07Reaching the lower water and entering a cave.
- 08Investigating the monk’s body.
Residents, visitors and factions
Residents and hostages
The farmstead’s inhabitants are primarily represented through the hostages and villagers encountered during the Mongol occupation and liberation event. Their presence is tied to the settlement’s state and to nearby mission progression. There is not sufficient reliable evidence to provide a canonical named resident list for ordinary farm workers.
Mission visitors
The following named characters are verified in connection with the farmstead:
These characters should be distinguished from permanent residents. Their appearance is governed by mission state, and they are not necessarily present whenever Jin revisits the settlement.
Mission visitors
Buildings, services and landmarks
The farmstead contains ordinary rural structures, including houses, storage areas and cultivated ground. The burned house investigated in The Blood Sutra is mission-relevant, but available sources do not establish a separate canonical name for it.
There is no reliable evidence that Koshimizu Farmstead contains a permanent merchant, blacksmith, armourer, bowyer, trapper, inn, dye merchant or upgrade station. The settlement should therefore not be listed as a service hub. Its importance comes from liberation and story activities.
Verified landmark directory
The last two entries are mission-route landmarks and should not be mistaken for separately named permanent locations.

Items and rewards
The farmstead’s ordinary resource drops are not treated here as a fixed inventory. Searchable supplies and materials in Ghost of Tsushima can be affected by mission state and do not constitute a unique named collection unless a guide specifically identifies them.
Items and rewards
| Item or reward | How it is obtained | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Key of Koshimizu | Liberate the farmstead during The Unbreakable Gosaku | One of six keys required for Gosaku’s armour |
| Legend increase | Liberation and associated activities | Exact amount can vary by activity and bonus conditions |
| Optional bonus reward progression | Complete the farmstead’s bonus objective | The documented bonus involves kunai kills |
| Gosaku’s armour | Complete the wider Mythic Tale | Not found at Koshimizu itself |
| Charm of Bludgeoning | Complete The Thief | Awarded by the tale, not by the farmstead liberation |
| Silk | Complete The Thief | Two pieces are listed by the cited guide |
Hazards and secrets
There is no well-supported evidence for a unique permanent secret shrine, vanity item, hidden boss, duel or collectible exclusive to Koshimizu Farmstead. The surrounding Kushi countryside contains other activities, but neighbouring landmarks should not be folded into this page without separate evidence.
Progression states
Before Act 2
Koshimizu Farmstead is associated with Toyotama content. The relevant mission guides place The Thief after the player reaches Toyotama, and Koshimizu’s occupation is part of the region’s Act 2 progression.
During occupation
The settlement is a Mongol Territory. Hostages are held inside or around buildings, Mongol soldiers patrol the farmstead and the map marks the area as uncleared.
After liberation
The Mongol occupation is removed, the settlement counts towards regional liberation and the player can claim the associated Gosaku key if the Mythic Tale is active. Mission availability and NPC placement may depend on whether the player has already begun or completed The Blood Sutra or The Thief.
After major story completion
The farmstead can remain visually or mechanically quieter after the main story, and player reports disagree about how many civilian NPCs remain visible in every progression state. This guide does not claim a definitive post-game resident population because the available evidence is inconsistent.
