Overview
Scarlet Rock Shrine is a hidden Shinto Shrine in Toyotama, in the south-western part of the region near Umugi Cove. It is one of Toyotama’s six major shrine climbs and is associated with the Charm of Tsukuyomi. The shrine’s approach begins in a vivid field of red flowers, but the visible torii-gate path does not lead directly to the climb. The actual route starts from a rock beside the approach, requiring Jin to use his grappling hook, narrow ledges, tree branches and broken wooden structures to reach the sanctuary.
The shrine is a self-contained traversal landmark rather than a settlement or dungeon. There are no named residents, vendors, missions, enemy captains or permanent facilities within the shrine complex itself. Its importance comes from the major charm, the Wax Wood found at the summit and its position as a useful exploration stop while travelling around western Toyotama.
Scarlet Rock Shrine is sometimes described as being “in Umugi”, “north-east of Umugi Cove”, “south of the Field of Equinox Flowers” or “south-west of Kushi Temple”. These descriptions refer to the same general approach area rather than separate locations. The shrine is best treated as a Toyotama landmark in the Umugi-side countryside, not as part of Umugi Cove’s built-up settlement.
