Overview

Matsumae Crossing is a river crossing and small Matsumae-controlled settlement in the Yōtei Grasslands of Ghost of Yōtei. It occupies an important travel position rather than functioning as a large town. The location is built around the Sarubetsu River, which runs through the grasslands and divides at the crossing. The area is consequently both a natural route through the region and a political pressure point between Clan Matsumae, travelling ronin and the wider population of Ezo.

The crossing is most closely associated with the side tale Building Bridges, in which Atsu becomes involved in a dispute over the Matsumae presence at the river. It also serves as a useful navigation landmark for the Old Stables, the Riverfront Hideout, the Reliquary of Courage, and several surrounding exploration sites.

Sucker Punch places the game in Ezo in 1603, presenting the area as a frontier outside the effective rule of Japan. That context is reflected at Matsumae Crossing, where movement, local authority and control of roads are more visibly contested than in the organised samurai territories of Ghost of Tsushima.
