Overview

Sarubetsu River is one of the main natural corridors in the Yōtei Grasslands. Rather than functioning as a single compact point of interest, it is a long, branching area containing crossings, riverside camps, mission sites, shrine puzzles, a hot spring route, a fox den, and several incidental encounters. The river is also an important early-game navigation landmark, linking the countryside around Yotei’s Shadow Inn with Lake Shikotsu, Windy Meadow, Matsumae Crossing and the western Grasslands.

Its most important content is concentrated around the river’s forks. The Sarubetsu-Shikotsu confluence is associated with A Normal Life and Building Bridges, while the western and lower bends lead towards The Worth of a Man, A Fleeting Thought, the Reliquary of Courage and the river’s Altar of Reflection. The area is consequently worth exploring as a route rather than visiting only the map marker labelled “Sarubetsu River”.

Sarubetsu River is part of the Yōtei Grasslands, not a separate world region. Some guides use slightly different spellings, including “Sarufutsu River” or “Barubetsu River”, for nearby or apparently identical map features. Those variants should not automatically be treated as separate locations.
