Overview
“Scavenger” is not a conventional town or named province in Ghost of Yōtei. In the base game, it is chiefly associated with Taro the Scavenger, a wandering survivor and merchant who searches battlefields for useful equipment. His most reliable permanent location is Dead Man’s Tree, in the Tokachi Range, west of Huranui’s Rest Inn. He can also appear during roaming or camp-related encounters elsewhere in Ezo.
Taro matters for three reasons. He provides a merchant service that is not always available from ordinary settlement vendors, he is connected to Taro’s Armor, and he can recover certain equipment or cosmetics that the player failed to collect during earlier encounters. He also plays a direct part in The Loss We Carry, a side tale involving Toku’s stolen or sold charm.
