Overview

Teshio Ridge is the northernmost main region in Ghost of Yōtei. It lies north of the Nayoro Wilds and forms one of the game’s six principal open-world regions. The area is associated with snow, high ground, frozen rivers and forested mountain country. Its most important story connection is the Kitsune storyline, which unlocks access to the region and brings Atsu into conflict with one of the Yōtei Six.

Teshio Ridge is not simply the area surrounding one central settlement. The region includes the Red Crane Inn, several forests and rivers, mountain and shrine locations, hideouts, closed-off buildings, hot springs, trading posts, puzzle locations and other activities spread across a large snowy landscape. Treating the inn or the central snowy area as the whole region risks omitting a substantial amount of its content.

The region is particularly useful for players who want to improve Atsu’s survivability and equipment. It contains hot springs for health upgrades, shrines that reward major charms, Altars of Reflection for skill points, fox-related activities, Nine Tails content and several charms with specialised effects.

The region also has a strong concentration of activities that reward careful off-road exploration. Several Altars of Reflection are attached to unusual access conditions, such as enemy-cleared trading posts, Nine Tails hideouts, closed-off buildings and statue or torch puzzles. This makes Teshio Ridge less suited to a simple road-only sweep. Players should expect to leave the main routes and investigate cliffs, forest margins, buildings and cave entrances.

Story-wise, Teshio Ridge is tied to Atsu’s pursuit of the Kitsune. The region is reached during the Kitsune storyline rather than being available from the beginning. Sources differ in how they describe the exact sequence of the story arrival, but agree that The Kitsune is the relevant main-tale unlock.
