Overview
Snake’s Valley is the most direct continuation of the Snake’s presence in Ghost of Yōtei. In the base game, the Snake is the first of the Yōtei Six whom Atsu pursues, and his death removes the faction’s central leader. Echoes of Sekigahara uses that event as its starting point for a new conflict. The Snake is gone, but the people who served him have not disappeared.
The Vipers occupy the expansion’s newly introduced wilderness. Official PlayStation descriptions identify them as outlaws loyal to the Snake, now left without their leader. They are also described as vicious poachers. Their activity has devastated Ashoro Foothills, threatening the area’s wildlife and giving the region a different atmosphere from the more settled roads, inns and factional territories of the base game.
The valley is consequently important for two reasons. First, it expands the Snake’s story after his death, showing the consequences of his rule rather than simply presenting another version of the original boss. Secondly, it acts as the present-day half of a story about Atsu’s past. The expansion alternates between the valley in Ezo and flashbacks to the Battle of Sekigahara, where Atsu fought alongside Nagato.
