Overview

The Mount Yōtei Trail is the shrine-climb route leading from western Yōtei Grasslands to Mount Yōtei Shrine, high on the slopes of the mountain that gives Ghost of Yōtei its name. It is not a separate full-sized open-world region in the same sense as Yōtei Grasslands, Ishikari Plain or Teshio Ridge. Instead, it is treated as a compact side area or vertical subarea attached to the Grasslands.

The route is reached from the torii gates near the western bend of the Yōtei River, between the river and Lake Jōzan. From there, Atsu follows a largely linear climbing course through the mountain landscape before reaching the shrine at the summit. The activity functions as one of the game’s Shrine Climbs, with a final prayer interaction and a charm reward.

The trail is also one of the clearest examples of how Ghost of Yōtei turns its namesake mountain into an explorable location rather than leaving it as background scenery. The surrounding game world is set in Ezo, present-day Hokkaidō, and official PlayStation material describes Mount Yōtei as a defining landmark of the setting.
