Overview
Yoichi Distillery is a real whisky distillery in Yoichi, Hokkaido, operated by Nikka Whisky. It should not currently be treated as a confirmed location in the base game of Ghost of Yōtei.
The confusion is understandable. Ghost of Yōtei is set in Ezo, the historical name for Hokkaido, and its setting draws on real Hokkaido landscapes, communities and cultural references. Yoichi is also a real Hokkaido town, located west of Sapporo on the coast, and is widely associated with Nikka’s Yoichi Distillery. However, a real-world location sharing the game’s broad geographical setting is not evidence that the location appears in the game.
Sucker Punch describes Ghost of Yōtei as taking place in the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei, in a fictionalised version of Ezo rather than a literal, one-to-one recreation of modern Hokkaido. The studio specifically presents the game’s world as an original landscape inspired by real locations, not as a faithful historical map.
