Overview
Hidden Altars are quiet, unmarked places scattered across Ezo in Ghost of Yōtei. They are not conventional shrines, combat encounters or skill-upgrade stations. Instead, they are small contemplative landmarks where Atsu can bow or play the shamisen, prompting a brief environmental response such as birds appearing, insects gathering or fish leaping from the water.
The game generally calls these locations Special Places. Many players refer to them as hidden altars because they fulfil a similar role to the hidden bowing spots in Ghost of Tsushima. They are usually identified by a small sign showing a person bowing, although some environmental interactions may also count without a clearly visible sign.
There are 10 Special Places required for the “Speaking with the Land” trophy, with confirmed locations distributed across the Yōtei Grasslands, Ishikari Plain, Tokachi Range, Nayoro Wilds, Teshio Ridge and Oshima Coast. Additional spots exist beyond the ten needed for the trophy, including a second confirmed interaction at Seianji Temple.
